The cause of death for L’Wren Scott has officially been determined. The famed fashion designer, who was found in her New York City apartment on Monday, March 17, killed herself by “hanging,” the NYC chief medical examiner’s office announced Wednesday, March 19.
“The manner of death was determined to be suicide,” Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the office, told CNN. According to Bolcer, Scott’s remains had been claimed but she did not specify by whom.
This information confirms what was expected to be true earlier in the week after the 6’4” beauty was found dead in her apartment by her assistant. Former New York Times fashion critic and Scott friend of 20 years, Cathy Horyn, wrote an article about Wren’s life on Tuesday, March 18. Horyn stated that the designer had struggled financially and professionally before her death. Horyn writes that about two years ago, she learned of her friend’s various struggles with her fashion label, involving management, cash flow, and other concerns. “Our friendship was tested when, after hearing her troubles, I told her she should give herself a time limit to resolve matters or get out. Putting her health in jeopardy because of stress was not worth it, I told her . . . She didn’t like the advice.”
Horyn’s moving remembrance included a recollection of the former model as being “6-foot-7 in heels” and “beguiling.” Horyn also wrote that Wren “could rapidly close the distance to another human being,” especially celebrities. “You felt at ease and never overshadowed by her, or indeed her famous boyfriend,” Horyn adds of Scott’s longtime partner, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
Stating that Scott was with friends the night before taking her own life, Horyn says her friends were “deeply concerned about her, but, no, they didn’t think she would do something so desperate. Not L’Wren.” Unfortunately, it appears that none of her friends or loved ones seemed to know the extent of Scott’s woes on her mental health.
Meanwhile, Jagger has returned to Los Angeles from Perth, Australia, to join his family and begin making funeral arrangements. The legendary rocker, 70, cancelled multiple concert dates after learning of Scott’s death, beginning with the schedule Perth performance. “Mick has arrived in L.A. where he is with his daughter Karis and her family who live there,” his rep told Us Magazine of Jagger’s 44-year-old daughter with actress Marsha A. Hunt. The rep continues that several of the rocker’s other children, including Jade, 43, with ex-wife Bianca Jagger, and Elizabeth, 30, Georgia May, 22, and James, 27, with ex-wife Jerry Hall, are also gathering around their father to support him during this difficult time.
