Lilly Singh has just accomplished a massive acheivement. She has reached a grand total of 9 million subscribers on her YouTube channel IISuperwomanII! Congratulations Lilly!

Lilly’s channel has grown rapidly in the past year. In January 2015, she had just reached 5 million, and she would go on to reach two more million milestones in that year. Less than four months ago, Lilly hit 8 million subscribers, which means she gained over 250,000 subs per month!

However, as Lilly said, “The number doesn’t matter. It’s what we do with the number that counts”. The most important thing is the reason why people are subscribing, which is because of quality comedy videos, but also a very genuine, inspiring and positive personality. Yes, people may like her because of her Indian parent characters, her relatable humour, or even just her long hair.

But behind the persona of “Superwoman” is a real person, one with flaws and problems, and someone who may not feel super all the time. This may not show through as much on her main channel, which is focused on comedy, but this is very evident on her vlogging channel. Here, we see Lilly in a more natural setting. She might not have makeup on, she’s usually tired, and we get to see the parts of her day where she may be feeling down.

This is a unique and intimate experience. With many other YouTubers and celebrities in general, we just see the highlights of their lives through carefully selected posts and videos. It’s always refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid of sharing all aspects of her life, including the ones that aren’t so glamorous. It could possibly be the reason so many people are drawn to her vibrant personality.

This is Lilly’s most recent vlog, when she found out she reached 9 million subscribers!

Lilly has also been very open about her struggle with depression. When she started YouTube, she used her comedy videos in an attempt to self medicate. She thought that if she could make others laugh, maybe she could make herself laugh. She has definitely achieved her goal, and more. She not only makes millions of people laugh and brightens their day, she is an incredible role model who conveys constant messages of positivity to her fans.

I hope you have a happy day. And if you're feeling down, I hope you embrace it, conquer it and get better from it xo

Another message Lilly provides to her followers is the importance of hard work, or as she calls it, ‘hustling’. If you’re a regular viewer of her vlogs, you will know that Lilly is constantly working. She is a self confessed workaholic, but it’s clear that she’s so passionate about what she does. She often tells her fans “don’t wish for dreams, work for them”. Her passion and belief in hard work has definitely helped her get to where she is today.

Goodnight #TeamSuper. Have sweet dreams… And then get up and work for them ?????

Just me, myself and all my ambitions hustling hard into the night. #werk

2016 has already been a year full of amazing acheivements for Lilly. She released her movie, “A Trip to Unicorn Island” on YouTube Red. Her face is on billboards across L.A, New York and Toronto. She also released a lipstick with Smashbox, called BAWSE. This is honestly just the beginning for Lilly. She has so much talent, drive and personality, it’s only a matter of time before she rules the world (while riding a unicorn, of course!)

Congratulations, Lilly, for inspiring each and every one of your 9 million unicorns, from all of us here at CelebMix.
