Let’s take a look back on the story of Troye Sivan’s ‘WILD’ EP.

Following the successful release of his previous EP, ‘TRXYE’, Troye knew he had to continue with his music and make something even better. So, he poured all of time, effort, and heart into this new music. He created a six song EP, which would later become the first six songs on the deluxe edition of his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood.

After he made the big announcement on stage at Vidcon last year, he began to release short teasers of each song in the days leading up to the release of the EP. After waiting so long, the fans were happy to finally get something from Troye. Yet to this day, most are still divided on whether the yellow flakes in the ‘WILD’ teaser are potato chips or flower petals…

After the release of the EP, Troye went on to unveil the Blue Neighbourhood Triliogy, consisting of ‘WILD’ and ‘FOOLS’ from the EP, and a new song, ‘TALK ME DOWN’. Today marks one year since the first video, ‘WILD’, was released. The trilogy was recently nominated for “Best Long Form Video” at the VMAs.

After the December 2015 release of Blue Neighbourhood, Troye’s music career really picked up speed. He made a gradual transition away from making YouTube videos, and focused on his passion for music. He earned his first ever Top 40 Billboard hit with Youth, made multiple TV and award show appearances, and featured on a few magazine covers. He toured Europe, North America, and Australia, and announced additional dates for the Suburbia tour this fall.

As for the EP itself, it has yet to lose its relevance. The lead song, WILD, a fan favourite about the ups and downs of young love, remains a standout even a year after its release. The remixed version featuring Troye’s pal Alessia Cara scored its own music video earlier this summer, and even sparked a worldwide hunt for hidden VHS tapes. The impact this EP has made on the lives of both Troye and his fans is very evident to this day.

Troye’s record label, Capitol Records, celebrated the one year anniversary by looking back on their favourite tweets about the EP.
